Canibus – Mind control

Canibus - Mind controlThis is Canibus 6th album to be released but most of this material was wrote between 2000 B.C. And C True Hollywood stories but money problems was the cause of such a late release and now I suppose it is a clever tactic as everyone is waiting for his return Hip hop for sell from releasing the dope Rip The Jacker. When listening to this you must remember this was wrote ages ago and was his and Ricky Lee attempt for an independent label and this is his attempt ti write deep lyrics from his typical battle raps. I’m going to give this score which first come into my mind.

1.33 3’s (4/5)

This is a pretty good way to begin the album. Canibus does a sequel to Jay-z’s 22 twos with 33 3’s. On this record he bases everything around the number 3 and shows his creativity. The song doesn’t make sense althogether but it’s cool. The beat is quite uptempo which is made of this piano/keyboard instrument and Canibus flows well. In all good way to begin the album. The not making sense lowers the mark.

2. Canibus man. (5/5)

I love the guitar in the background gives this an aggressive feel. You can hear scratching of his famous 2nd round knockout. This is really a typical Bis battle rap song which proves how great he is. The hook is alright pretty simple tho. This is pretty dope.

3. Atlanta. (3/5)

The beat is nice on this one but yet lyrically this isn’t Bis at his best. He spits about how he love Atlanta yet isn’t he from New York? Nevermind about that tho he spits stereotypical stuff of a south rapper and even gives himself a south flow like Lil’ Flip about how. Like CTSH I think this is Canibus trying to be clever by chucking irony in it. Pretty average

4. Gybaotc (4/5)

The beat is pretty alright but the drums I hate as they sound like a typical club shit which I don’t like tho the violin type of instruments and the guitar loop is pretty good. The lyrics are about strip clubs and are bearable if it was a different rapper but yet again it irony which doesn’t drag this down. The hook is pretty funny tho. It’s quite a storytelling story as Canibus is a customer and the lady rapper is the stripper. Its pretty hilarious as instead of being a rapper who is iced up and touches the *****es during they dancing but Canibus is a broke rapper who touches a stripper by accident. Pretty good

5. In the rain (3/5)

The beat is alright and the lyrics are alright . This song is average at it best time and spits one of the most stupidest lines every “you don’t know nothing I said well at least I know something”. The trumpets are alright on this one. Canibus tries to be deep on this one but doesn’t come well. He looks at himself optimistic as a rapper/artist. The hook is pretty annoying. He flows well that’s another pro of this song which is painfully average!

6. Mind control (2/5)

The title song of the album yet it’s a stinker pure filler. The beat is painfully average with it electronic based stuff. The hook is pretty poor as well. The lyrics are in storytelling form and he warns you the dangers of the career he does placing it in his shoes and how you should take control of your life. It’s a nice idea but Canibus doesn’t pull it off and wern’t expecting this from Canibus with the name of Mind control. With a name like this I was expecting shit about how he can control your mind and dope stuff but this isa attempt of Bis breaking Mainstream.

7. Last Laugh (5/5)

This is pretty dope. The beat has a Jamaican/Caribbean feel which you don’t hear that much no more. The hook is pretty good as well. The second verse reminds me of Phuk you where he shows he skill by placing a sample with his lyrics which always shows skill to me. The lyrics in general are his battle advanced style which is great IMO.

8. Not 4 Play Feat. Kurupt (3/5)

Alright when I read this I notice two of my favourite mcs together I thought great going to be my favourite but it like most of this delayed album incredible painful to listen to. The beat is pretty nice witht that string instrument in the background but the lyrics are just pain terrible if the name hasn’t gave it away. I would rate this a 2/5 but the beat brings it up a little.

9. Stupid producers (2/5)

This is a storytelling track and it is average (what a surprise). The lyrics are about some producer and Canibus making a deal with each other and Canibus take shots at producers and certain flaws they have. The producer’s voice is annoying as ***** and the beat is pretty simple and can’t save this. It’s a nice realistic story but I don’t like the beat and I don’t like the producer voice. The best bit is when Canibus starts beating the producer ass! Yes give it to that squeaky voice Bis!!

10. Talk the talk (3/5)

Again the beat has a nice guitar loop but something makes this pretty average (beatwise), must be that synthesizers loop thing which replaces the guitar loop. I hate the hook. He raps about how you can’t talk about him and his stuff until you been in his place. Again the lyrics are his battle type of lines. He does that “you can talk about this you can talk about that you can talk about anything you want” type of thing where each line concentrates on a word. The hook and the synthesizer shit makes this not get above average.

11. Nobody

The beat is more of a slow tempo and again has that synthesizer stuff which I don’t like making the beat an average one. There isn’t any lyrics just talking down the mic which doesn’t end the way how he could go out IMO.

I would rate this 3.5/5 and his 4th best album out of six

When you listen to this album you must remember that this was written as his 3rd lp so you shouldn’t really put it against his new work and say how bad it was compared to it and say he fallen of because he has gotten back up since this was written. Production lets this down in most but it an independent company with one producer and has done his best. Lyricially he still good. Most song appear on a Canibus mixtape which also brings this down. This is just a filler for the anticipated album “Hip hop 4 sale” which will probably production from Stoupe and A rumour Is Kanye west.

Recommendation. I would buy this if you are a big Bis fan but if its your first album of Canibus then Buy Rip the Jacker. You shouldn’t try this if you are ignorant and not willing to try something new then “Dat Gangsta Shit!!!11oneone”

Canibus – 2000 B.C.

Canibus - 2000 B.C.Canibus – 2000 B.C.

01. The C-Quel

The album starts alright. The lyrics are good and the beats not too bad.Over the theme of S.W.A.T. canibus starts off with a weird idea with each end of each lines starts the next line blending in his lyrics. After a few minutes it gets back to normal and Canibus delivers some nice lyrics.
(Lyrics 4.5/5)(Beat 4/5)(overall 4/5)

02. 2000 B.C.

What else can i say about this song except DOPE!!!!!!. This is the title song of the album and My fave song on the CD.Ty Fyffe creates a dramatic war type feeling beat. He uses sirens and an opera lady singing background vocals to give this dramatic feel. The drums and bass goes with the siging very well. Canibus serves some dope lyrics. The chorus i feel is a little bit of a diss toward wyclef and his last and very dull album can-i-bus. He also spits “you mad at the last album, I apologize for it / Yo, I can’t call it, motherf**kin’ Wyclef spoiled it /”. The lyrics are his normal dope clever lyrics. And his normal dope flow. This goes with Canibus very well as his a battle rapper and was in the army.
(lyrics 5/5)(Beat(5/5)(overall 5/5)DOPE!!!!!!!

03. Life Liquid (feat. Journalist)

The Prodution is good and lyrics both clever and funny from both canibus and the journalist. Production is from The Beatnuts JuJu.This song is all the ways you can possibly torture or kill a man. It’s got clever Metaphors and wordplay. Also in Canibus’s first verse is about and takes the mickey out of gay’s and describes the stereotypicial gay.
(Lyrics 4.5/5)(Beat 3.5/5)(overall 4/5)

04 . Shock Therapy (skit)

This is a Hilarous skit.Even tho i dont normally like skits i like this one. its getting someone(producer) to admit he been using bits of other songs with a taser if you get the pun in the name.
(not rateable)

05. What Who U Beef Wit

Good beat and lyrics upto his standards. The hook is catchy. The beat has a piano from some song which i can’t remember but works. The track like Life liquid is about violent and watching who you have beef with and how you can be got anywhere.
(Lyrics 3.5/5)(Beat 4.5/5)(Overall 4/5)

06. I’ll Buss ‘Em You Punish ‘Em (feat.Rakim)

This song is another dope one. Not only is it featuring one of the dopest mc’s(Rakim) ever but the beat and lyrics are dope. Rakim and canibus being advance and dope mc’s they try their best to keep up and beat each other lyrics.Rakim outshines Canibus on this track and that hardly happens but with “Put my dick in your ear and ***** what you heard” Ra clearly outshines him. Their flows go really well with this track. The Hook is catchy as hell!
(lyrics 5/5)(beat5/5)(overall5/5) Dope!!!!

07. Mic-Nificent

The beat is alright on this and canibus keeps up with his normal standards but his flow really shines out for me on this. Aint really much to say on this.
(Lyrics 4/5)(Beat 3.5/5)(overall 3.5/5)

08. Die Slow (Feat. Journalist)

The Beat is alright on this one. the Lyrics are upto his standards like usual. This one is featuring Journalist again. He comes off good aswell.Their flows are good on thsi one aswell. The hook is catchy. This beat sound especially made for Cabibus flow.
(Lyrics 4/5)(Beat 3.5/5)(overall 3.5/5)

09. Doomsday News (feat. Panama P.I)

The beat is good. The lyrics are good as usual and his flow comes good on this.again like who you beef with i swear i know the guitar from.Parama delivers a good hook.
(Lyrics. 4.5/5)(Beat 4/5)(overall 4/5)

10. Lost @ ‘C’

I Can’t Beleive I’m about to say this about a Irv Gotti beat but i really like this. Like B.C. 2000(track 2) it feels really dramatic and a war feeling. The opera signing and the bell dongs give this a real eerie dramatic feel. The drums goes with all that and canibus flow. Canibus shows really skill with this song’s lyrics. The 3rd verse really impress me as he goes on about what i feel about certian rappers and hip-hop right now. The hook is catchy.
(Lyrics 5/5)(Beat 5/5)(Overall 5/5) dope !

11. Phuk u

I’m split on this song. I like it and it quite annoying.Lyrics his standards are Kept. His 2nd verse shows reall skill as the phuk’s from the background goes with lyrics e.g. “(phuk)n**ga which you nice than them/who offend coz u gotta fight till the end/if you (phuk) groupie chicken when you out on tour/smoke a little bit of weed and (phuk) her some more”
The beat sounds really energetic and quite kiddy but the hook is annoying as *****.
(Lyrics 4.5/5)(beat 3.5/5)(overall 4/5)

12. Horsemen (Featuring Pharoahe Monch)

Monch just spits a acapella freestyle describing the horsemen, Bis talks at the end…kinda sounds like a outro hook but I don’t’ know…I’m not going to rate this since it really is just an intro to the next song

13. Horsementality (Feat.The 4 Horsemen)

This another really good song. Not only is it featuring some of the most dopest mc’s(ras kass, kurupt, killa priest and canibus) but the beat is really good. Choas the producer creates a really uptempo beat which goes with the rapper delivery. each artist’s have their own style which really makes this a good song. Kurupt is my fave on this track.
(Lyrics 4.5/5)(Beat 4.5/5)(overall 4.5/5)

14. 100 Bars

This is one of Canibus most impressive songs. He spits 100 bars for about 5 mins without stopping showing his advance skills. His lyrics are really dope on this song. The beats is good and definaitly goes with canibus incrediable flow.No hook.
(Lyrics 5/5)(Beats 4.5/5) (4.5/5)

15. Chaos

Bis raps the first verse and hook acapella before the beat kicks in and blends in with canibus dope flow, Bis comes nice and shows his skills.,beat is alright hook is alright.alright way to end the album.
(Lyrics 4/5)(Beat 3.5/5)(overall 3.5/5)

Overall this album gets 4/5.

Buy this album but if you want his best buy rip the jacker(4.5/5) but stay away from Can-i-bus(2.5/5) and Whatever you do stay as far away from c true hollywood stories(1.5/5)as the production is weak as f**k but canibus lyrics are sharp as usual.Buy mic club(4/5) if you heard 2000 B.C. or rip the jacker Canibus shows incredible lyricial skill but repetition in his battle rap type songs and some bland production keep him from getting his props. His Flow is incredible and dope and so is his voice. Canibus has to evole a tiny part from his battle type of raps to be one of the best

Canibus – Rip the Jacker

Canibus - Rip the jackerAfter Canibus burst onto the scene, he dropped albums many people thought were disappointing. Finally giving up on making the mainstream feel Bis, he took things into his own hands with mixtapes and lyrically laced albums.

This time around, Rip the Jacker is a conceptual album. As the alter-ego of Canibus, Rip the Jacker is the side of Bis that battled LL Cool J and made Canibus his name back in 1998.

Hooking up with eccentric producer Steve Stoupe, the combination is his best work yet.

1. Intro

2. Genabis

The track is to show the birth of Canibus and how he mastered the art of lyricism. The production reflects a coming and suits the feel of the song perfectly. Finally, Bis has a chorus that mixes into the song. A great start to the album.

3. Levitibus

The first thing you notice on this track is the production with an eerie biblical style feel to it. Of course, there is a reason for that. Leviticus is the Biblical set of ritual rules, Levitibus reflects Canibus’ rituals to making his style. The lyrics are fire, and the production again suits Bis perfectly.

4. M-Sea-Cresy

A more laid back production to this track that enables you to listen to the lyrics Canibus lays down. It has a very oldschool New York feel to it. If it was made in 93 it would’ve been a hit. The lyrics and production again combine nice.

5. No Return

Concept of the song is that Canibus is who he is and there is no returning to that Wyclef mainstream style he was forced to have on Universal. The chorus and production is kind of annoying and is the worst track on the album, the lyrics are great again, but like past Bis failures is the mixture into the song..

6. Spartibus

The first single of the album. This track created a lot of buzz for the album and with good reason. The production is dark and the lyrics are straight heat. The chorus is perfectly mixed into the style of the track. One of the album’s best moments.

7. Indibisible

The production to the track is unbelievably off the hook with it’s Mexican style feel. The concept for this track is “Unspeakable”. Basically, if it can’t be said, Bis can’t rap it. The lyrics are off the hook, the chorus fits in perfectly and the production is off the hook. The song is ill beginning to end.

8. Showtime At the Gallow

The production on this track is genious. It gives the feeling of being executed with it’s drops which is the concept of the track. “Gallows”. Canibus feels like he was the next thing, how could he be executed for what made him great by the fans? The lyrics and production are tight. Another classic track to this album.

9. Psych Evaluation

An inner look at the mind of Canibus and the production again is well done again, with Canibus getting more angry in the depths of his mind as the song goes on and the music makes you feel like you are inside the insanity. Song could never be a club banger, but the concept of the song and it’s delivery by Bis and Stoupe is mindblowing.

10. Cemantics

Semantics is the study of meaning in language. This is the concept of this track, the depths of Canibus’ lyrics. The production again suits the track nice and Canibus’ lyrics are ill. The flow he has is again unbelievable. Nice track.

11. Poet Laureate II

Back on “2000BC”, Canibus delivered a track called “100 Bars” where he spit 100 and it was recieved by critics as amazing. On his last album “Mic Club”, Bis said he thought 100 was nothing, so here it is. An unbelievable 200 bars on this track. I’ve never heard this done so well by any lyricist and this track alone proves that Canibus is the greatest lyricist of our time. The production suits the 200 bars, never leaving you feeling bored. Amazing.

People looking for another Aftermath style hit, turn away. But for anyone that wants to hear rap and a lyricist perform the art the way it was intended, this is one of the greatest albums ever made. Stoupe and Canibus are a combination that if they continue dropping albums like this could be the next Dre/Snoop, Eric B and Rakim, etc. They have a style together that fits perfectly. Bis’ problem up til now was his production, now that he has it, he dropped the album everyone waited on. The concepts of this album were finally delivered by both Canibus and his producer, which is what every Bis fan has been waiting for. If this album was the one that came out in 98 instead of “Can-I-Bus”, I feel he would be a star today. Now it’ll be slept on which is the ultimate irony of the album. Makes you wonder what will happen with Crooked I as it’s hard pressed to imagine he could ever drop an album like this one.

Again if you want MTV worthy rap, turn away. If you want pure rap and lyricism, this album is great and damn near a classic.
